Weir'd Thoughts for Weird Times

ABOUT MELANIE

Melanie Weir, writer and editor, headshot: White woman, long blonde and purple hair, blue eyes, smiling, bookshelf backdrop

I'm a writer and editor based in Brooklyn, NY, and I made this site so that I could be an Entertainment critic without needing an established brand to sponsor me. If you wanna hear the thoughts of a sitcom-obsessed Zillennial with the enthusiasm and pep  of Jessica Day and the passion and knowledge of Abed Nadir, you've come to the right place.

MY PICK
OF THE MONTH

The Paper promotional image

Peacock's new Office spinoff, The Paper, is an easy choice for my very first PICK OF THE MONTH. This show has everything: Wacky characters with heart, odd yet familiar interpersonal dynamics, a team of loveable underdogs, and an inside look at a workplace that has been dying a sad, slow death all across America - although in this case, it's not one I'm sure we should be ready to let go of.

People are untrusting of journalism now, and it's no wonder: Our large news organizations are all interwoven into national politics too thoroughly to be unbiased, and our small ones are being forced to sensationalize headlines and serve dubious ads just to get by. Just like Parks and Rec sought to remind us that there are good people who really care in small government, The Paper seeks to prove that there ARE journalists out there who want to give us the truth - it's just gotten really hard to do.
