Ensemble sitcoms like The Paper rely on two key elements to drive them: Character Growth and Romance. The Paper's 3rd episode, 'Buddy and the Dude' brought both of those things in spades.

“Buddy and the Dude” did a great job cementing key character dynamics and establishing the day-to-day of things at TTT, while still fleshing out some of the less central characters.

The Paper’s second episode did an excellent job at furthering dynamics they set up in the pilot, and filled in a lot of the ones I’d wanted more of. I see it clearly now: there are so many familiar character archetypes on this show, both from Greg Daniels’ other sitcoms and contemporary sitcoms in general.
